PayPal Helps Your Holiday Donations Go Further on #GivingTuesdayCA 2014

Give a Little CheerWe were inspired by how people, charities and companies rallied to join the first #GivingTuesdayCA movement in Canada last year. #GivingTuesdayCA donation data from CanadaHelps revealed that charitable donations increased by 169%, and the dollar value of donations increased by 91% as compared to the same Tuesday in the previous year. Clearly, Canadians generously supported the first #GivingTuesday movement in this country.

To celebrate your generosity, I am delighted to share that PayPal will help your donation dollars go further this #GivingTuesdayCA, and for all of December. We’ve collaborated with CanadaHelps to match 1% of all donations made through PayPal on CanadaHelps from December 2– 31, 2014 for eligible charities.

How can you choose to give cheer this #GivingTuesdayCA?

  • We’ve made it simpler for you to contribute to the #GivingTuesdayCA movement. Select your favourite charity on the CanadaHelps website and donate with PayPal. Your donation dollars become even more meaningful as PayPal will match the donation to your charity by 1%.
  • If you’re an eligible charity, PayPal’s 1% donation match on #GivingTuesday will help you get access to more funds. All you need to do is encourage your donors to donate with PayPal on one of your CanadaHelps Custom Donate Now pages or to donate directly to your charity through the CanadaHelps website. Eligible charities will receive their PayPal 1% donation matching funds in 2015 through CanadaHelps.

Last year, we joined the #GivingTuesday movement in Canada and encouraged people at the popular Jimmy’s Coffee café in Toronto to think how they could get involved. You can watch the video here.

This year, we’re excited by the amazing opportunity to help your donation dollars go even further in December. We’d love to hear you how you’re looking to get involved with the #GivingTuesdayCA movement in Canada. Do share your stories on our Facebook page or send a tweet to @PayPalCA.

This is a great initiative and I’m happy to hear that PayPal is doing it’s party in being a Corporate Citizen. What I want to know though, is what percentage of my donation through Paypal would typically be distributed towards transaction fees compared to if I had paid directly from my credit card? (E.g. Visa will typically take a fixed fee from 1-3%. If I pay via PayPal, would that 1% match from Paypal be enough to offset to the transaction fee taken by Paypal?)
